AI & information integrity: Seeing is no longer believing | Sam Stockwell | TEDxLondonBusinessSchool

What happens to truth when AI reshapes the information environment during elections and moments of crisis? From deepfakes to AI chatbots spreading conspiracy theories, technology is increasingly capable of sowing confusion and distorting public perception. This talk challenges you to reconsider the role AI should play in protecting democratic stability, and how it can build resilience rather than erode trust. Sam Stockwell is Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Emerging Technology and Security (CETaS) within the Alan Turing Institute. His research focuses on how AI is affecting the online information ecosystem, particularly in relation to mis/disinformation, moderating harmful content, and election interference. He also conducts research on challenging issues at the intersection of privacy and safety trade-offs, such as the use of biometrics in law enforcement and lawful access proposals for criminal investigations on end-to-end encrypted networks. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
