As We Start Tomorrow with AI in África and Ethiopia | Amadou Daffe | TEDxArada What role will África play in shaping the future of artificial intelligence? In this talk, Amadou Daffe, CEO and Co-founder of Gebeya, explores the opportunities and challenges AI presents for África and Ethiopia. Drawing from his experience building technology for African businesses, he considers how AI could help address challenges in employment, food, shelter, and healthcare. Amadou argues that Africa’s future in AI will depend not only on talent, but on access to the tools, infrastructure, and opportunities needed to put that talent to work. He also examines Ethiopia’s potential to become an important AI hub and calls for a future in which African talent is not simply participating in the AI revolution but helping shape it. Amadou Daffe is the CEO and Co-founder of Gebeya, a technology company focused on building AI solutions for Africa’s service and creative economy. He founded Gebeya in 2016 after seeing talented African professionals struggle to access the tools needed to turn their skills into opportunity. With a background in Computer Science and Information Systems, Amadou’s real inspiration came from seeing talented African professionals struggle not because of lack of talent, but because of inadequate tools. This realization led him to found Gebeya in 2016. Today, the company is creating digital assistants designed for the realities of African businesses from mobile money to WhatsApp-driven commerce. Passionate about África, technology, and talent, Amadou believes the continent doesn’t have a talent problem it has a tool problem. Through Gebeya, he is working to equip millions of African entrepreneurs with the infrastructure they need to build and scale successful businesses.
