Staying Human in an AI-Driven World | Josh Brunty | TEDxMarshallU
Josh Brunty explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithms quietly shape our daily experiences—often influencing our decisions without us realizing it. Drawing on his work in cyber forensics and competitive hacking, he reveals how these systems prioritize engagement over autonomy, and why humans must provide context, intention, and critical thinking. Using his practical framework—Pause, Probe, Pivot—Brunty challenges us to reclaim control, think more deliberately, and stay human in an increasingly AI‑driven world. Josh Brunty, PhD, is a professor of Cyber Forensics and Cybersecurity at Marshall University and the current Head Coach of the U.S Cyber Team, where he has led the US national team in international cybersecurity competitions. Additionally, he serves on multiple editorial boards and national standards committees, conducts research that focuses on digital forensics, competitive cybersecurity, algorithmic transparency, and ethical AI, and has published award-winning work on wearable device forensics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
