The Missing Piece of AI & Tech Literacy | Gabriel Dalton | TEDxEcole Mission Secondary

What is the environmental cost of our digital lives? Gabriel Dalton explores the hidden footprint behind websites, online activity, and the rapidly growing demands of artificial intelligence, showing why digital sustainability is a missing piece of modern tech literacy. Drawing on work that has reduced website emissions, energy use, and water use by up to 98%, he challenges audiences to see the internet not as invisible, but as physical infrastructure with real environmental consequences. Gabriel Dalton is the Founder of Oasis of Change Inc., a digital strategist, and the recipient of the City of Vancouver’s 2025 Youth Impact and Innovation Award. He helped proclaim Sustainable Technology Week in Vancouver, and his work through Oasis of Change has contributed to the planting of over 17,000 trees in 32 countries. Gabriel has worked on sustainability projects with Microsoft and IKEA and advocated for accessible, low-carbon technology before TransLink's CEO and Board of Directors. Through his work, he has helped secure over $865,000 in in-kind technology grants for nonprofit organizations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
